James Hood

James Edward "Jaybird" Hood, 90, of Pacolet, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at his home. Born November 6, 1921, in White Stone, SC, he was the son of the late Ed and Ida Brown Hood. Mr. Hood was a member of White Stone United Methodist Church and attended Tate Memorial Baptist Church. He retired as owner of J. Edward Hood Construction, was a member of Trough Shoals Lodge #228 AFM Masonic Lodge, an avid gardener, and had a special interest in mechanics. Surviving are his beloved wife of 37 years, Aurelia Copeland Clayton Hood; children, James Hood, Jr. of Mauldin, SC, Linda Hood Hodge of Spartanburg, SC, Clary Hood (Gail) of Mayo, SC, and Kathy Hood Jones (Sidney) of Piedmont, SC; step-children, Rebekah Clayton Duvall (Jerry) of Laurens, SC, Rose Clayton Pennington of Laurens, SC, Eric Clayton (Sylvia) of Clinton, SC, Lelex Clayton of Laurens, SC, and Lisa Clayton Taylor (Ronnie) of Laurens, SC; 9 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a stepson-in-law, Danny Pennington. Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, October 12, 2012, at Tate Memorial Baptist Church, by the Rev. Dennis Tessnier and Mr. Eric Clayton II. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, White Stone, SC. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. The family is at the home.
