James Hamrick, 95, of Pauline, SC, died Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at his home. Born June 18, 1927 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late William E. Hamrick and Lillie Mae Bishop Simonson.
A US Navy veteran, Mr. Hamrick was retried from Southern Bell (AT&T) after 36 years of service. He started with the US Postal Service for his first year.
Never sitting still, James helped to get Hilltop Fire Department started. He was a member of American Legion Post #28. A past president of Spartanburg Shrine Club, he was also a member of The Hejaz Temple since 1972, and he worked with the March of Dimes and was a member of the Optimist Club.
James was a member of Southside Baptist Church and then began to attend White Stone United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Betty Ann Quinn Hamrick of the home; his son, Mark Hamrick of Spartanburg, SC; his daughter, Elaine Shepherd of Roebuck, SC; his stepdaughter, Malissa Guy of Moore, SC; seven grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was also predeceased by a son, Jimmy Hamrick, Jr. and his brother, W. E. Hamrick, grandparents, Arthur Bishop, Sallie Cooley Bishop, and stepfather, Henry C. Simonson.
A Graveside service with Military Honors and Masonic Rite will be at 3:00 pm Friday, September 9, 2022 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by Lay Leader Christopher Allen. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hejaz Shriners, P.O. Box 3668, Greenville, SC 29608.
