James Hoyt Greene, 93, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Emeritus at Skylyn Place-Spartanburg. Born December 4, 1921, in Green Creek Polk County, NC, he was the son of the late Henry Flavis and Mary Champion Green, and husband of the late Addie Elizabeth Rollins Greene. A dedicated family man who loved the Lord, Mr. Greene was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the 7th Army in the North African Campaign. During his enlistment he was involved with the invasions of Sicily, Italy and southern France, and helped liberate Dachau Concentration Camp. He was a member of Horton Memorial Wesleyan Church. He was also a Mason, a lifetime 3rd Degree member and past Master of Clifton Lodge 215AFM (now called Cowpens-Clifton Lodge 215AFM), and a member of the Eastern Star Ora Chapter #153 in Converse. He was retired from Hoechst Fibers, The Leader, and Fowler Associates. Survivors include his daughters, Mildred Greene Fowler (Ray) of Mayo, Barbara Greene Moss Loden (Frank) of Spartanburg, Janice Greene Peeler (James) of Campobello, and Janice Abernathy Fowler (Steve) of Spartanburg; sons, Joe Abernathy (Brenda) of Cowpens and Tommy Lowe (Margaret) of Spartanburg; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Ralph Green of Woodruff and Malcolm Greene (Sue) of Wellford; and sister, Ruth Greene Hall of Inman. Visitation will be 12:45-1:45 PM Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Timothy Waldrop and Mr. Daniel Green.
