James Garrett

James Eston Garrett, 88, of 7161 Parris Bridge Road, went home to be with his Lord and wife surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born July 6, 1922 in Chesnee, he was the son of the late R. B. and Sunnie Bartee Garrett and the husband of the late Sarah Louise Bridges Garrett. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was retired from ABF Trucking, a member of Teamsters Local # 28, a member of Cooley Springs Baptist Church, and a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corp having served in World War II. He loved his Lord, family, friends, work, deer hunting, fishing, farming and his wonderful companion poodle, Bingo. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Garrett and wife Janice of Inman and William Garrett and wife Debbie of Chesnee; four granddaughters, Christy Sturgill and husband Bobby, Amy Hooks and husband Tripp, all of Inman, Tara Bradley and husband Trent, and Tonya Garrett, all of Chesnee; three great-grandsons, Caleb Sturgill, Hayden Hooks, and Austin Hooks. He was predeceased by ten siblings. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Cooley Springs Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Kite and the Rev. Daniel Godfrey. Burial will be in the Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P. O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or to Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home of his son, William Garrett, 7191 Parris Bridge Road, Chesnee, SC 29323.
