James Curtis Floyd Sr., 90, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, February 10, 2014, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born October 31, 1923, in Walnut Grove, SC, he was the son of the late Mack Roy Floyd Sr. and Patra Grant Floyd. He was married to the late Dorothy "Dot" Brown Floyd for 64 years. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Floyd served in Europe with the 407th Infantry Regiment. He was a member of the American Legion, The Military Order of the Purple Heart, the retired owner of J. C. Floyd's Plumbing and Electric, and a member of Ben Avon Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Peavy Patton Floyd; children, Lila Price (Ray) of Spartanburg, SC, Barbara Shaffer (David) of Leesville, SC, Debbie Floyd of Florence, SC, Tammie Matthews (David) and Wayne Floyd (Kay), all of Spartanburg, SC, and Jimmy Floyd (deceased) and his wife, Karen of Blacksburg, SC; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Joy Lanford of Woodruff, SC; brother, Marvin L. Floyd (Joan) of Boiling Springs, SC; a number of step-children; step-grandchildren; and his faithful Border Collie "Cody". He was also predeceased by four brothers and three sisters: Mack Floyd Jr., Ansel Floyd, Rufus Floyd, Ray Floyd, Pat Smith, Grace Addison, and Freida Barnett. Visitation will be 12:00 noon - 1:45 PM Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James C. Hilton, the Rev. Richard King, and the Rev. Ralph Byars. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
