James Olin Dodd, Sr., 86, of Boiling Springs, SC, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born July 22, 1928, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Gladys Dodd. Mr. Dodd retired as vice president of Neely & Gibson Coal Company. He loved golf, during his lifetime he had two hole-in-ones, and was a champion handball player. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School where he was voted "Most Handsome" and a graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College. He also served in the Naval Reserve, was a member of the YMCA for 50 years, a past member of the Rotary Club, delivered Mobile Meals for 20 years, and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. Survivors include his beloved wife of 28 years, Judy Strand Dodd; children, Katherine Dodd Smith (Fred) of Belews Creek, NC, and James Olin Dodd, Jr. (special friend, Sherry Massey) of Spartanburg, SC; step-daughter, Kimberly Howell (Keith) of Inman, SC; grandchildren, Harry Dean Mahaffey III (Heather), Anna Marie Fountain (Kevin), and Clinton William Turner; step-granddaughter, Katelyn Cromer; great-granddaughters, Anabel Katherine Mahaffey and Millicent Grace Fountain; and step-great-granddaughter, Ella Veronica French. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jamie Lynn Dodd; and brother, Ray Dodd. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jack Dodds and Mr. Fred Smith.
