James Carl Denton Jr., 90, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, May 8, 2011 at his home. Born June 7, 1920, in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of the late James Carl Denton Sr. and Florence Duncan Denton. Mr. Denton was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having received the European-African-Middle Eastern (EAME) Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was retired from Drayton Mills after 35 years of service and of the Christian faith. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Lily Mel Tobias Denton of Spartanburg; a daughter, Florence Elise Bennett of San Antonio, TX; a son, James Carl Denton III and his wife Jean of Spartanburg; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Reggie Parker and the Rev. Jerry Clevenger. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
