James Wood "Doc" Davis, 90, of Spartanburg, died Monday, August 6, 2012, at his home. Born April 3, 1922, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Lawrence Thomas and Mattie Wood Davis. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Davis was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II in the European theatre. He was formerly employed with Wallace Dupre Auto Parts and Murphy Cadillac Pontiac. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Ann Elston Davis; son, Ernest Sherwin Davis of Spartanburg; daughter, Hollie D. Stafford of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter, Isis Gem Stafford of Albuquerque, NM; brother-in-law, Edward Aaron Elston of Spartanburg; and nephew, Kenneth Davis of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by his first wife, Annetta Wilson Davis; a sister, Mary Virginia Davis; and brothers, L. J. Davis and William "Bill" Davis. A graveside service with military rites by the SC State Guard Honors Team will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, August 10, 2012, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, by Pastor Bill Bethea.
