James Chapman

July 3, 1931 — April 18, 2009

James E. Chapman, 77, of 281 Point Circle, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC. Born July 3, 1931, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was a longtime resident of Spartanburg until retiring to Prosperity in 1988. He was a son of the late Dallas Edward and Montague Wall Chapman and retired from Hoechst-Celanese Corporation after 17 years of service. He was a member of Chapin Baptist Church in Chapin, SC, and active with the Friends of Jesus Ministry. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Adams Chapman; a son, Bruce Chapman and Tammy Miller of Kannapolis, NC; a granddaughter, Hannah Nichole Miller; a grandson, Patric Hollar; two sisters, Sara Chapman Ramsey of Boiling Springs, SC, and Ruth Chapman Hayes of Spartanburg; four brothers, Marvin Chapman and Henry Chapman of Spartanburg, Ned Chapman of Enoree, SC, and Vance Chapman of Gaffney, SC. He was predeceased by a sister, Annie Chapman Johnson; and two brothers, B. F. Chapman and Rufus Chapman. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Kelly and the Rev. Phillip Vaughn. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, all memorials may be made in his name to the International Rett Syndrome Foundation, 4600 Devitt Drive. Cincinnati, OH 45246.
