James P. Adair, 90, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Spartanburg Medical Center, after a short illness. Born July 14, 1932 in Glenn Springs, SC, he was the son of the late John Boyce Adair and Jessie Nora Youngblood Adair.
A US Navy Korean War veteran, Mr. Adair served from 1949 to 1953 in the Philippines. He was retired from CSX Railroad, after serving 32 years as Yard Master.
Jim enjoyed bowling in three leagues and had a nice collection of bowling balls. He also enjoyed his outdoor feral cats.
Survivors include his daughters, Pamela Adair Dean (Bob) of Spartanburg, SC and Ann Adair Nalley (Steve) of Winston-Salem, NC; his son, Jamie Adair of Woodruff, SC; grandchildren, Elizabeth Adair Dean of Maryland, Jessica Nalley Kenney of North Carolina, and Steve Nalley, Jr. (Jenny) of Colorado; greatgrandchildren, Ava Kenney and Nate Kenney; and the mother of his children, Martha Womick of Union, SC. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by a grandson, Jonathan Lyle Dean and his siblings, George Nelson Adair, Peggy Brown and J.B. Adair.
Visitation will be 11:30 – 11:50 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2023 at Friendship Baptist Church, 830 Friendship Baptist Church Road, Pauline, SC 29374. Funeral service will be at 12:00 noon, at the church, conducted by The Rev. Tommy Sparks. Burial will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304. They were a great service to Jim for assistance in maintaining his independence.
