Jakob Amann, 79, of Gaffney, SC, died Monday, November 10, 2014, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born December 20, 1934, in Basel, Switzerland, he was the son of the late Karl and Wilhelmina Amann Anz. Mr. Amann studied mechanical engineering in Switzerland. He immigrated to South Carolina in 1964 to work in the textile industry. In 1979, he founded JBA Corporation which focused on precision machining. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years, Beatrice Amann; children, Beatrice Amann Rey (Karl) of Switzerland, Col. Franz Jakob Amann (Mary) of Maryland, and Andreas Johann Amann (Sharon) of Cowpens, SC; grandchildren, Marita Kazos (Vaggelis) of Delaware, Nadia Grace Amann, Jakob Johann Amann, and Andreas Alexander Amann, all of Cowpens, SC; great-grandson, Fragkiskos Christos Kazos of Delaware; and sister, Walburga Ali-Amann of Switzerland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, November 14, 2014, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, by the Rev. Timothy Gahan. Private entombment will be at a later date.
