Jacqueline Hackler Hayes Hollis, wife of Richard E. Hollis died February 20, 2021 at her home in Spartanburg, SC. She was the daughter of the late Jacques Sidney Hackler and Beatrice Hughes Hackler. Born in Danville, Virginia, Mrs. Hollis grew up in Martinsville, VA where she graduated from Martinsville High School. She attended Converse College and graduated with a BA degree in Sociology and minor in Religion. She retired from Richland County School District One in Columbia, SC after 22 years of service. Jackie was first married to Frederick L. Hayes III. In January 2003 she married Richard, whom she had dated while at Converse and he at Wofford. Both were encouraged by friends to reconnect with each other. They did and had 18 loving years together. After their marriage, Jackie and Richard moved to Spartanburg, SC and Jackie became very involved in volunteer work with the St. Luke's Free Medical Clinic, the Adult Learning Center, and the Spartanburg County Public Library. Mrs. Hollis was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent where she served on the Altar Guild, was a member of the Daughters of the King, and served as the Church Library Volunteer Coordinator. She was a talented artist and very much enjoyed the Friday morning watercolor class, especially her lunches with "the girls". As a founding member of the Advent Toners, Mrs. Hollis was honored as the longest, continuously serving member of the group and was presented a commemorative hand bell for her dedication by the current Advent Toners. Surviving are her husband Richard E. Hollis; sons, David Conrad Hayes, and John Edward Rollins Hayes; a "special daughter", Cherie Blackwell Altman; step-daughters, Laura Hollis Terry (Peter), Chellie Hollis Blondes (Cliff); brother-in-law, Myers Hollis (Judie); four grandchildren; MollyKate, Maggy and Madison Terry, and Graham Blondes. The family would like to express their special thanks to the wonderful nurses and support staff of Kindred Hospice, especially to Joy, her CNA. A Memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, March 25, 2021 at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, officiated by The Rev. Ned Morris and The Rev. Paula Griffin.
