Jackie Lee Pfeiffer was born on March 3, 1937, in French Creek, NY, to the late John and Dorothy Pfeiffer. He was the second of three children (the late Rosemarie Pfeiffer White and Leo Pfeiffer). Jack passed peacefully into God’s comforting embrace on Father’s Day, June 18, 2023, at the age of 86.
Jack led a good, honorable, hard-working life. He was most proud of his wife of 60 years, Janice Naumann Pfeiffer, and his daughters and grandchildren Amy Pfeiffer (son Charles), Melinda Pfeiffer (children Alistair, Annie, and James), and Kristen Nawabi (husband Amir and sons Noah, Jonah, Isaac, and David). His late infant daughter Heidi (1964) welcomed him to Heaven. He was the first in his family to go to college and he spent his entire career with Shell Oil Company, moving with the company from Charlotte, NC; to Raleigh, NC; Whitehouse Station, NJ; and Columbia, SC, before finally retiring to Spartanburg, SC.
Jack’s passion in life, other than his family, was golf. He was a Pennsylvania state golf champion in high school, played on the Muhlenberg College golf team, was a member of the U.S. Army’s golf team when he served as an assistant chaplain, and won numerous tournaments and events over the years. He was still shooting his age and driving the ball 250+ yards well into his 70’s and had an almost-scratch handicap. He taught his daughters and grandsons to play and shared his love of the game with them.
Jack also lovingly tolerated Janice’s love of cats and her frequent travel to Africa and was endlessly patient with her and his family. He was a proud member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Spartanburg, SC, and served in various capacities in the church. His faith was extremely important to him and has been a comfort, especially in these times of illness and grief.
The family would like to thank the care Jack received from the caring and attentive staff at Spartanburg Regional Hospital, the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, and the Hospice House in Forest City, NC. The family also thanks the numberless people who have prayed for him and for Janice, especially Revs. Wade and Heather Apel, who provided pastoral care on his final transition.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. His funeral service will be Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 4:00pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 415 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, conducted by Pastor Wade Apel and Pastor Heather Apel.
