Jack Wheeler

December 12, 1949 — November 2, 2021

Jack Raymond Wheeler, 71, of Roebuck, SC, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Born December 12, 1949 in Batavia, NY, he was the son of the late William Patrick and Gladys Julia Matla Wheeler, and the husband of the late Sherry Yvonne Correll Wheeler.

Jack married the love of his life Sherry, who he affectionately called Ethel on July 16, 1971. He lost his precious wife three years ago and we know he is rejoicing in Heaven with her today. They had five children, 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

There’s not a grandchild here that Papa didn’t feed potted meat with mayonnaise and crackers or vienna sausages when they were little. He was always giving them rides on the tractor or golf cart. A few of them were even lucky enough to get to spend their summers or even longer times working with him.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved hunting with his sons and grandkids. For years, he was in fishing clubs and tournaments. He spent many hours fishing at their lake house on Lake Murray with his boys.

He raised his boys to be strong men with big hearts. Every Sunday when the boys were growing up, he had John, David, and Andy chopping wood. He taught them how to hunt, fish, play baseball, and more importantly how to be great men.

Jack Loved his Alabama Crimson Tide football team. He would make calls to family and friends every time they scored a touchdown. He was also a HUGE Braves fan… he was so happy they made it to the World Series. He definitely had the best seat in the house to watch that game Tuesday night!

He had a love for his friends and family like no other. From the love of his sisters, his Alabama family, his “Filipino” nephew (Rocky) and “Big Dummy” (Jeremy), his fishing and hunting friends, his dinner buddies, and all the many people who became his friend over his 50 plus years of owning his plumbing business. We all were blessed to have had this man be a part of our life.

Survivors include his sons, Andrew Wheeler (Donna) of Moore, SC, David Traxler (Leslie) of Spartanburg, SC, and John Traxler (Gina) of Pauline, SC, 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, and his unborn great-grandson, “Peanut” who will be here in April 2022, his sisters, Carole Ann Phelps (Jim) of Rock Hill, SC and Sharon Patricia Mensing of Wisconsin. He was also predeceased by a brother, Patrick Peter Wheeler.
