Jack Russell Kidd, 87, of Spartanburg, SC passed away, Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Mary Black Hospital. Born June 23, 1929 in Vinton, VA, he was the son of the late Edward Hypes and Irene Meador Kidd. He married Alyce Virginia Mallory in 1953. Mr. Kidd was a Korean War veteran. He was an English professor at High Point College, High Point, NC, Frederick College, Portsmouth, VA., William and Mary College, Norfolk, VA and Limestone College, Gaffney, SC. He was the owner of Kidd Printing, Gaffney, SC. Jack received a B.A. degree at Randolph Macon College, where he was a member of KAPPA ALPHA Fraternity, a Carnegie scholarship to receive a master's degree at Peabody College at Vanderbilt and a PHD from Queen College, Cork Island. Jack's greatest passion in life was his family and his poetry. Survivors include a daughter, Alice Kidd Smith, and her husband, Irvine Clifford Smith, Jr.; son, John Edward Kidd, and his wife, Lori Denise Kidd; two grandsons, Justin Wyatt Kidd and Jacob Avery Kidd. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Church of the Incarnation, 308 College Drive, Gaffney, SC 29340. A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the church, conducted by the Rev. Jenny Gettys. Burial will be at a later date in Bedford, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Thompson (formerly York Place), 6800 Saint Peters Lane, Matthews, NC 28105.
