Jack Harris

Jack Dempsey Harris, 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center-ER. Born March 24, 1925, in Gastonia, NC, he was the son of the late James and Leala Bostic Harris, and foster parents, Adrian and Grace Everets. A graduate of Houghton College, Rev. Harris retired after 44 years of ministry with the United Methodist Church in Virginia and North Carolina. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Spartanburg. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Jo Cheatwood Harris; step-children, Michael Davis, Gerald Davis (Sharon), and Annette Daniels (John); sister, Geraldine Nieman; sister-in-law, Margaret Bishop; eight grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Monson. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
