Jack Donald Gowan, 81, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 at his home surrounded by his wife and children. Born June 27, 1929 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late W. T. and Lois Willard Gowan and the loving husband of Sylvia Smith Gowan for 60 years. He was a 1946 graduate of Spartanburg High School and served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953 in the Heavy Mortar Company 169th Infantry as a Sergeant. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service in 1989 after 30 years of service and was a member of the Letter Carriers Union where he remained active in the NALC for over 20 years. He was a member of Whitney Baptist Church. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Cynthia England and Debra Gowan; a son, Jack Gowan, Jr.; five grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister. Visitation will be 2:00-3:45 p.m. Sunday January 2, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Henry Farmer.
