Jack Ray Anthony, 91, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home after a period of declining health. He was born April 15, 1923, to the late Rev. Paul D. Anthony (who passed prior to his birth) and Annie Bell Anthony of Grover, NC. Mr. Anthony was raised by a devoted and loving stepfather, the late Manly F. Fulton and his mother, Annie Bell Anthony Fulton. Jack served his country as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II. He also served as Fire Commissioner for Cherokee Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Jack worked in the textile industry in both North and South Carolina as an industrial supply salesman for Crawford Mill Supply and operated the Spartanburg division of Columbia Industrial Supply Inc. until his retirement in 1988. Jack was an avid fisherman and loved gardening, travel, bird watching and photography. He was a member of Peach Valley Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC. Surviving is his beloved wife of 69 years, Lois Davis Anthony; daughters, Carole A. Blevins of Spartanburg, SC, Connie A. McDowell (Bill) of Spartanburg, SC, Anita A. Moon (Michael) of Chesnee, SC, and Janet A. Horton of Inman, SC; eight grandchildren, Cliff Carter (Lisa), Will Carter, Kathy Bagwell (Ray), Julie Lancaster (David), Matthew Moon (Scarlet), Jennifer Edwards (Chad), Brian Horton and Ivey Horton; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bert F. Busbin and Mary Lou F. Morgan (Gene), all of Inman, SC, and Mecie F. Scruggs (Gantt) of Spartanburg, SC. He was predeceased by his brothers, Paul D. Anthony of Earl, NC and Manly F. Fulton Jr. of Spartanburg, SC. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 10, 2014, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Perrin Powell and the Rev. C. Allen Senn. Visitation will follow at the graveside. Memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304. The family is at the home of daughter, Janet A. Horton of Inman, SC.
