Jones L. "J. L." Petty, 85, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Magnolia Manor-Inman. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was born December 17, 1931, in Spartanburg County, SC, to the late James Henry and Frances "Fanny" Jane Parris Petty. He was married to the late Octavia Smith Petty for 63 years. Mr. Petty was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church and retired from Hammond-Brown-Jennings Furniture. Survivors include his children, Sherra Harrison (Ray) of Seneca, SC, Otis Petty of Inman, SC, and Barry Petty (Cindy) of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Michelle Powell, Nicole Lewis, Stacey Walker, Bradley Petty, Katie Williams, and Karie Gault; and 10 great-grandchildren whom he adored. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, December 15, 2017, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by The Rev. Tommy Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to El Bethel United Methodist Church, 820 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. The family is at their respective homes.
