Jerry Douglas "Doug" McClain, U. S. Army, Ret., 93, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at Southpoint Healthcare and Rehabilitation-Greenville, SC. Born August 15, 1926, in Canton, OH, he was the son of the late Allen and Matilda "Tilly" Kuhn McClain and husband of the late Peggy Jean Blackwell McClain. A retired U. S. Army veteran serving in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, Master Sergeant McClain was a member of the VFW of Inman, SC. He was very social but truly stopped to "smell the roses" and was loved by all as he never met a stranger. He also loved dogs and playing golf. Survivors include his daughter, Patti Mitchell of Spartanburg, SC; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Stephanie Faith Jordan; brother, Jack Allen McClain (Katie); and sister, Betty McClain. A private graveside service will be conducted in M. J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Dr., Anderson, SC 29621, at a later date.
