Iris Fayssoux Gentry Ezell, 85, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, October 24, 2016, at her home. Born October 18, 1931, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Ernest E. and Willie Mae Williams Gentry. A 1948 graduate of Spartanburg High School, Iris attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. She was a 1952 graduate of Limestone College and received her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina. She taught in District #7 Schools for 21 years and was honored as the 1984 Spartanburg District 7 Teacher of the Year and 1986 Spartanburg Rotary Club Teacher of the Year. She also served as an adjunct professor at Converse College as Student Teacher Supervisor. Mrs. Ezell was a lifelong active member of First Baptist Church where she served as both a Coordinator and an Assistant Director of the Women's Missionary Union. She was also a member of Young at Heart, the Cema Chreitzberg Garden Club, the Kate Barry Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she served in the roles of Regent, Vice Regent, and Secretary, and also volunteered for Mobile Meals. Survivors include her husband, Billy Burton Ezell of the home; three sons and their wives, Maurice Glenn Cox, Jr. (Melanie) of Spartanburg, SC, Will Jamison Cox (Carrie) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Robert H. Cox (Cristen) of Spartanburg, SC; seven grandchildren, Chance Jamison Cox of Aspen, CO, Tawney Shea Bevacqua of Venice Beach, CA, Anthony Bevacqua (Kiersten) of San Diego, CA, Robert Hamilton Cox, Jr., Deacon Mills Cox, Marnie Suzanne Baxter, and Brian Robert Cox, all of Spartanburg, SC; and sister, Hellen Gentry Lewis of Spartanburg, SC. Visitation will be 10:30-11:30 AM Friday, October 28, 2016, in the Parlor at First Baptist Church, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon, in Davis Chapel at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
