Iris Powell Browning, 99, of Spartanburg, died Saturday, October 28,2023, at White Oak at North Grove. A native of Polk County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Quincy and Nellie Abrams Powell and the wife of the late Marlin George Browning, Sr.
She graduated from Brevard College and was formerly employed with Sears Roebuck & Company, Evangel Cathedral and a member of St. James United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her children, Robert L. Browning (Beth), M. George Browning, Jr. (Jo), Melody Keck-Suber: stepdaughter, Barbara Browning Pace; grandchildren, Courtney Quillen (Tony), Katie Sims (John), Anna Browning, Greg Browning, Bradley Browning and Bailey Smith (Ryan); great grandchildren, Caroline Bradshaw (Logan), Camille Quillen, Vivian Quillen, Ben Quillen, John Michael Sims, and Molly Sims; great great grandchild, Beckett Bradshaw. She was predeceased by her stepdaughter, Marlene Browning Sher and her siblings, Melville Powell, William Powell and John Lee Powell.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 am Saturday, November 4, 2023, at St. James United Methodist Church, 213 N. Lanford Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301. Funeral services will follow at 10:45 am conducted by the Rev. C. E. “Smoke” Kanipe, Jr. A private family interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Quillen, Ben Quillen, John Sims, Bradley Browning, Greg Browning and Logan Bradshaw.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 213 N. Lanford Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
