Irene Key

Irene Waddell Key, 86, of Spartanburg, SC passed away peacefully surrounded by her family to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, March 9, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born April 16, 1931 in North Wilkesboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Anthony and Zephyr Mae Tharpe Waddell and the widow of Thomas Clinton Key, Sr. Irene was an avid reader and gardener. She spent her life devoted to her church and family. She was a member of Hammett Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Connie Key; sons, Dr. Thomas Key, Jr.; Danny Key (Boyne); Larry Key (Johnnie); Dr. Timothy Key (Wanda); Jamie Key (Barbara); sister, Margaret Baumgardner; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by four siblings. Visitation will be 1:00 - 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Hammett Grove Baptist Church, 635 Hammett Grove Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will be 2:30 PM at the church, conducted by the Rev. Clint Phillips, the Rev. Paul Hogan, and the Rev. David Sellars. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caretaker, Cathy Hodge.
