Hugh R. Simmons, 85, died Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Park Place Assisted Living of Spartanburg. He was born on January 11, 1929 in Spartanburg, SC. He was the son of the late James Cyrus Simmons and Hattie Pearl Dobson Simmons. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Lula Mae and Margaret; five brothers, Herbert, Carl, Norman, W.B., and Fred Simmons. Hugh was the owner/operator of Hugh Simmons Septic Tank Service and was retired as a SC State Constable, School District Six Maintenance, and a 50-year member of The Shriners. He was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church, Fairforest Masonic Lodge #393, Fairforest Ruritan Club, and also a member of Palmetto Grange. Survivors include his lovely wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Ann Lancaster Simmons, one daughter, Catherine Simmons Desjardins of Spartanburg, SC; one sister, Lillian Riddle of Spartanburg, SC; one brother, Albert Simmons of Spartanburg, SC; two grandsons, Christopher S. (Natasha) Desjardins and Collin T. Desjardins, of Spartanburg, SC; and four great-grandsons, all of Spartanburg, SC. Services will be on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Fairforest Baptist Church, 115 Church Street, Fairforest, SC 29336, conducted by the Rev. Joe Dempsey and the Rev. Dr. David Lancaster. Burial will be in the Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will follow services in the Social Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agape Hospice, 1053 Center Street, West Columbia, SC 29169 or to the American Diabetics Association, 119 Eastwood Circle, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The J.F.
