Howard Horne

Howard Robert Horne, 83, of Spartanburg, died Monday, September 19, 2011, at Park Place Assisted Living. Born June 12, 1928, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Dan and Eva Horn Horne. Mr. Horne retired from the U. S. Postal Service with 40 years of service as a mail carrier and was a longtime operator of Howard Horne Concrete Services. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a former member of Park Hills Baptist Church. He also received his 50-year membership pin as a member of St. John Chapter #333 Masonic Lodge. He was a lover of music and played the piano. Survivors include his wife, Thelma Rogers Horne; a daughter, Becky Horne Tillotson and husband Sam of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Ashley Tillotson Beavers and husband Joey of Mauldin, SC, and Adam Justin Tillotson and wife Kristin of Greenville, SC; brothers, Wallace Horne and wife Madelyn, George Horne, and Melvin Horne and wife Brenda, all of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by numerous brothers and sisters. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by Chaplain Reid Bowyer. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Honorary escort will be the Fellowship Sunday School Class of Southside Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to The Soup Kitchen, Second Presbyterian Church, 438 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home, 434 Allison Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
