Howard Lemuel Charles, 96, of Greenville, SC, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Shepherd's Care Center. Born April 16, 1917, in Arcadia, SC, he was the son of the late Toy F. and Patience Black Charles. A World War II veteran of the U. S. Navy, Mr. Charles retired from Lyman Printing-Finishing. He attended Northside United Methodist Church in Greenville and was a member of First Baptist North Spartanburg. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and member of the American Legion. Survivors include his stepdaughter, Shannon Rochester and her husband Steve of Greenville, SC; three step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Jones Charles, and his second wife, Elizabeth Smart Charles; two brothers; and one sister. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Friday, August 2, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, at the chapel, conducted by Mr. Cameron Pollock. Burial with military rites by the SC State Guard Honors Team will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
