Homer Cleveland

Homer Melvin Cleveland, 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, October 18, 2013, at Summit Hills Skilled Nursing. Born September 24, 1925, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Henry Melvin and Anna Cason Cleveland, and husband of the late Ruth Ballenger Cleveland. A U. S. Navy veteran, Mr. Cleveland was a member of Drayton Baptist Church, member of Drayton Masonic Lodge #360 and retired from Milliken and Company after 47 years of service. Surviving are his sons, Donald M. "Don" Cleveland (Patty) of Anderson, SC, and Darryl W. Cleveland (Sarah) of Moore, SC; four grandchildren, Katee Barker (Brandon) of Toccoa, GA, David B. Cleveland (Stephanie) of Covington, GA, Daniel B. Cleveland and Andrew W. Cleveland, both of Clemson, SC; five great-grandchildren, Ana Barker, Evan Barker, Mary Kate Cleveland, Mills Cleveland, and Madden Cleveland. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by sisters, Aubrey Overbeck (Ralph), Wilma Ware (Ed), Ruby Seay (Rufus), and Yvonne Fagin; and brother, Ray Cleveland. A graveside service with military rites will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by Chaplin Cindy Adair Inman. Visitation will follow at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Honor Flight Upstate SC, PO Box 838, Simpsonville, SC 29681 or Interim Hospice, 155 Deacon Tiller Road, Duncan, SC 29334.
