Hilda King McWhorter, 89, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Presbyterian Home in Summerville, SC. Mrs. McWhorter was born February 5, 1922, in Abbevile, SC, daughter of the late Charles Thompson and Sallie Woodhurst King. Mrs. McWhorter was a graduate of Winthrop University. She was a kindergarten teacher at Westminster Presbyterian Church and taught second grade at Jesse Boyd Elementary School. She loved little children and was a loving and devoted mother and wife. She is survived by her husband, William W. McWhorter, Sr., of Summerville, SC; son, William W. McWhorter, Jr., of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, Sarah E. McWhorter of Hollywood, SC; and a large number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 20, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. B. E. Pettit. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
