Hilda Berry

May 18, 1930 — February 10, 2018

Hilda L. Berry, 87, formerly of West Pointe Drive, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at The Inverness at Spartanburg. Born May 18, 1930, she was a native of Spartanburg County, and the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson (Jack) Lee and Annie Mae Fine Lee. She was first married to John James Woodring, deceased, later remarried, but divorced from Hal G. Berry, also deceased. She is survived by a daughter Debbie Woodring Gruner, husband, Wolfgang; a son, John Nelson Woodring, wife, Priscilla; two grandsons, Steven L. Jackson, Jr. and family and Drew Woodring; and a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Lee-Emory Helms. Mrs. Berry attended local public schools. During her life, she worked in the accounting, secretarial, engineering and retail fields. The Fine and Lee families were active members at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and Mrs. Berry was a current member at Central United Methodist Church. Mrs. Berry participated in the PTA, served as a fundraiser for the March of Dimes and was involved in other community endeavors, but her best known affiliation was in the Republican Party. She was instrumental in helping organize the Republican Party in the State of SC. Although unsuccessful, Mrs. Berry ran for the SC House of Representatives in 1972. Mrs. Berry was a firm believer in God, family and country and always strived to be true to her convictions. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Central United Methodist Church, with services following at 2:00 PM conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tom H. Norrell. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist, 233 N.
