Hester Harris

Hester Burgess Harris, 91, of 114 Continential Drive, Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, September 24, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born March 10, 1919 in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Walter Archie and Cora Cogdell Burgess. She retired from Beaumont Mills and was a kindergarten teacher at Bethel United Methodist Church. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she was a member of the J.O.Y. Sunday School Class, a long time nursery worker, and a Sunday School teacher. Survivors include her husband of fifty four years, Seth Harris; a daughter, Mildred Knox of Moore; a son James Pack (Buddy) and wife Toby of North Augusta, SC; a granddaughter, Kelly Knox Roper and husband, Matthew of Moore; three grandsons, Dr. Christopher Knox and wife Lisa of Greenwood, SC, Richard Pack and wife Amy, and Robert Pack of North Augusta, SC; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Sara Patterson of Woodruff; two brothers, James Burgess and wife Betty of Greenville, and John Earl Burgess and wife Betty of Spartanburg; and a sister-in-law, Margie Burgess of North Augusta, SC. She was predeceased by a son, Billy Harris; a granddaughter, Casandra P. Wood; a brother, Leroy Burgess; and a sister, Lucille Cannon. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 27, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Blanton and Pastor James Nugent. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family is at the home.
