Herman Mckinney

Herman Eugene "Gene" McKinney. 77, of Chesnee, SC, died Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born January 24, 1937, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Ruth McKinney. A graduate of Cowpens High School and U. S. Army Vietnam veteran, Mr. McKinney was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne with 10 years of service. He was a self-employed contractor, a member of Southside Baptist Church in Chesnee, and a lifetime member and past Post Commander of VFW Post #9539. Surviving is his beloved wife, Carolyn Reid McKinney; daughter, Sally Galloway (Willie) of Edgewater, FL; sons, William McKinney (Michelle) of Orlando, FL, and Robert McKinney (Tonya) of Oak Hill, FL; step-children, Bobby Butch Walker, Myra Willis, and Merrie Soltis (David); grandchildren, Joshua, Shantel, Justin, Haley, Amanda, Brandy, Tonya, Barrett, and Shannon; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 1:30-2:45 PM Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Todd Justice and the Rev. Dr. James Quick. Burial with military rites will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family is at the home.
