Herman K. Massey, 84, of 6151 Woodfield Circle, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. Born January 19, 1926 in the Spencer Community of Rowan County, NC, he was the son of the late John Franklin and Clara Belle Koontz Massey. He was first married to late Martha W. Massey. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after forty three years of service, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he was a member of On-The-Go-Group, and he served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII as a nose gunner on B24 bombers. In addition to his wife, Gloria Fleetwood Massey, he is survived by two sons, Darrell Wayne Massey and wife Pamela, and Herman Jeffrey Massey and his wife Linda all of Spartanburg; a step daughter, Nicolee Coggins and husband Dennis of Irmo, SC; three step sons, James Arthur Fleetwood and wife Caroline of Spartanburg, Brian Joseph Fleetwood and wife Diane of Bostic, NC, and Bradley Jay Fleetwood and wife Anna of Inman; a brother, Elon F. Massey of Salisbury, NC; two grandchildren; and eight step grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister. Visitation will be 3:00-3:45 PM Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Michael Shackelford and the Rev. Emily Edenfield. A private burial will be in Fort Prince Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
