Herbert Stephens Jr.

Rev. Herbert Stephens, Jr., 94, died Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born December 7, 1928, he was the son of the late Herbert and Louise Stephens.

Rev. Stephens retired from the United Methodist Church as a full Elder. He was a graduate of Fairforest High School and completed his Seminary requirements at Emory University and Duke University. Prior to his service in the United Methodist Church, he was a commissioned Salvation Army officer serving several appointments in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Survivors are his wife of 74 years, Ellen P. Stephens; son, Larry H. Stephens (Elaine); daughter, Tracy Lancaster (Lynn); grandsons, Kevin G. Stephens (Gina), Mitchell Lancaster (Abby); great grandchildren, Allie Stephens and Henry Lancaster, along with three step grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren. Herb was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie Stephens.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2023, in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, officiated by Minister Chris Allen, of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
