Henry Moss Jr.

Henry "Sonny" C. Moss, Jr., 72, passed unexpectedly in his home on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Sonny was born September 1, 1944 in Springfield, IL to Henry C. Moss, Sr. and Edna Bell (Jackson) Moss. Sonny wore a variety of hats as he proudly served in the United States National Guard and the Springfield Illinois Police Department (1969-1995), from which he retired. After moving to South Carolina he worked as a substitute teacher in District 7 and most recently as a security officer in the Spartanburg County Library System. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Spartanburg. Sonny was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Moss; and daughter, Julie Moss. Sadly, Sonny's father passed in Springfield later that same day. Sonny leaves behind his stepmother, Mary Moss of Springfield, IL; and daughters, Jodie Lublin of Springfield, IL, Claire Moss of Greenville, SC, and Sarah Moss of Charleston, SC, as well as each of their partners whom Sonny loved as his own; and his much beloved partner, Edwina Otto of Spartanburg, SC. So much can be said of Sonny, but anyone who talked to him for 10 minutes knew him- he was an open book. He will be missed as a father, son, and dear friend. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 PM Monday, May 8, 2017, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1320 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
