Hellen Lewis

Hellen Devue Gentry Lewis, 90, of Spartanburg, SC, wife of the late Robert L. Lewis died Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Eden Terrace-Spartanburg. Born November 21, 1926, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Ernest E. and Willie Mae Williams Gentry. A graduate of Spartanburg High School, she attended Whitworth Junior College in Brookhaven, MS then later graduated from Limestone College in 1948. Hellen taught school in Montgomery County, MD, and Spartanburg County. Her most recent retirement was from Rufus D. Lewis Jeweler where she was an owner in the business. Hellen was a member of the Kate Barry Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of Morningside Baptist Church. She was an avid reader, writer, and loved music, but she especially loved the time she spent with her family and dear friends. Survivors include her son, Robert Lindsay Lewis, Jr. (Kay) and their children, Alexander Page Lewis (Mary Towles) and Robert Lindsay Lewis, III; and her son, Ernest Gentry Lewis (Jolyn) and their children, Anna Elyse Lewis, Benjamin Wade Bishop (Amy) and Jordan Wesley Bishop. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Carol Morrell Lewis and her sister, Iris Fayssoux Gentry Ezell. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Eden Terrace, All About Care, especially Amy Tucker, and Interim Healthcare for all their love and support to Hellen and the family Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Sunday, December 18, 2016, in the parlor of First Baptist Spartanburg, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306, with services following at 2:00 PM in the Davis Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Britt Dillard and the Rev. Bob Neely. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Following the service, the family will be at the home of Gentry and Jolyn Lewis.
