Helen Wilkins

Helen Vernell “Nana Vern” Wilkins, 80, of Inman, SC, passed away peacefully Friday, March 18, 2022 at White Oak North Grove. Born June 19, 1941 in Polk County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Naomi Cantrell Greenway, and was the wife of the late James Thomas Wilkins.

Helen was a member of Cudd Memorial Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a medical transcriptionist for Doctors Westmoreland, Hicklin and Coley. She loved her East Henry work family and was blessed to have a job that she loved and provided her with so much laughter. After retirement, she worked the card ministry at church by handmaking cards with a special group of friends. She also enjoyed “hanging out” with her siblings and close church friends by trying out restaurants all over town.

While Helen remained active in her retirement, the loss of her husband Tommy four years ago was a blow. Her family grieves her loss, but they take comfort knowing that Tommy and Helen are together again.

They are survived by their daughter, Amanda (Dennis) Horton and her son, Jimmy (Melanie) Wilkins, and their beloved grandchildren, Dylan (Kelcey) Horton and Makayla Horton, and most precious to Helen, her two great grandchildren, Jaxon and Ava. Helen is also survived by her sisters, Betty Heatherly and Martha Hayes, and a brother, Joe (Lenora) Greenway and many precious and beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Floyd’s Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Hwy 9 North, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. A Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Monday, March 21, 2022, at Cudd Memorial Baptist Church, 1301 Boiling Springs Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303, conducted by The Rev. Kris Showen. Burial will follow in Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens, 4081 Hwy. 9 North, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Senior Salts at Cudd Memorial Baptist Church, 1301 Boiling Springs Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
