Helen Tipton Vaughan Waddell, 84, of Inman, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at her home. Born October 31, 1927, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Cleo Coin Tipton. Mrs. Waddell was retired from the Spartanburg Herald Journal after 42 years of service. She had a passion for working crossword puzzles and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are her husband, of 50 years, Bob Waddell; son, David L. Vaughan and wife Donna of Inman; grandchildren, Robert Ashley Vaughan and wife Courtney of New Prospect, and Lane McMillin Vaughan and wife Kim of Chesnee; great-grandchildren, Adalyn Vaughan, Elliott Vaughan, Clancy Vaughan, Kelsie Bridges, Kealie Bridges, and Macklin David Vaughan; brothers, Bill Tipton and Richard Tipton; sisters, Mary Ruppe and Joanne Hodgin; brother-in-law, Donald L. Waddell; and numerous special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Albert C. Vaughan; sisters, Grace Eaker and Dot Maxwell; brothers, Howard Tipton and Charles Tipton Jr. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, March 30, 2012, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, by Chaplain Rick Millwood. Visitation will follow at the graveside. Memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
