Helen Gallman Kirby, 91, of Spartanburg, formerly of Woodside Lane, Spartanburg, died Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Oakmont Nursing Home-Union, SC. Born December 20, 1920, in Union, SC, she was the widow of Victor L. Kirby and daughter of the late Newell and Beulah Willard Gallman. A retired nurse, Mrs. Kirby worked for Dr. Leon Poole for 20 years, then with Spartan Mills for 17 years. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Cema Chreitzberg Sunday School Class, Circle 7, Bible Study Class, Altar Guild, United Methodist Women (UMW), and the Roebuck Chapter Order of Eastern Star #216. Mrs. Kirby was predeceased by a daughter, Cornelia Heindl. Survivors include her granddaughter, Rene Ramey of Inman; a son, John Michael Kirby of Spartanburg; grandson, Kevin Heindl of Fairbanks, AK; great-grandson, Taylor Heindl of Fairbanks, AK; and a nephew, Rick Gallman of Chesnee. A graveside service, with Eastern Star rites, will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 31, 2012, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, by the Rev. David B. Smith.
