Helen Gore Hammett, 86, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at her daughter's home in Dewey, OK. Born December 16, 1922, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Gore, Sr. and Lois Morris Gore. In May 1941 she married Thomas "Tommy" Hammett, Sr. Their marriage continued for 67 years. Helen was a warm, caring individual, whose family and faith were the most important aspects of her life. A 1938 graduate of Spartanburg High School, she was a longtime employee at Smith's Wholesale Drug as a shipping clerk and retired in 1985 to go camping with her husband Tommy. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Spartanburg for fifty years. Surviving in addition to her husband, Tommy, is a daughter, Tana McGraw and her husband Marshall of Dewey, OK; a son, Tim Hammett and his wife Mickey of Athens, GA; a daughter-in-law, Jane Hammett of Castleberry, AL; two granddaughters, Tracy Morrison and her husband Rob, and Marlo Dillsaver and her husband Jeff, all of Dewey, OK; and a grandson, John Pack and his wife Cheeka of Semmes, AL. Continuing Helen's legacy is her pride and joy, her six great-grandchildren, Abbey Grimes, Jarrett, Emma, and Bennett Dillsaver, Isabella and Alex Morrison. She is also survived by her brother, John Gore of Taylors, SC. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas Hammett, Jr. in 1995; a brother, Monnie Gore, Sr.; and sisters, Vonnette Thomas and Sarah Adair. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church of Spartanburg conducted by the Rev. Dr. James W. Crocker and the Rev. Danny Garrett.
