Helen Hames

Helen Revels Hames, 71, of Drayton, SC, died Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born September 10, 1942, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Elton Vonley Revels, Sr. and Annie Pearl Steadman Revels. Mrs. Hames was a member of Westgate Free Will Baptist Church. She was the matriarch of her family, an avid reader, and she looked forward to her annual beach vacations. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Johnny George Hames; daughters, Tammy Guinn (Doug) of Pacolet, SC, and Leslie Abernathy (Karsten) of Spartanburg, SC; grandsons, David Hames (Sitharith), Lee Cobb, Jason Cobb, Jeffery Atkins, Adrian Abernathy (Kasey), Gavin Abernathy, Eric Guinn, and Phillip Guinn; granddaughters, Hollie Cobb, Brandi Atkins, and Kaitlyn Abernathy; great-grandchildren, Julian Finch, Sawyer Finch, Blake Abernathy, and Wyatt Abernathy; and sisters, Faye Calvert and Mary Corn, both of Spartanburg, SC. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Kim Cobb; and nine older brothers. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, August 29, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Westgate Free Will Baptist Church, 820 W. Blackstock Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29301, by the Rev. Kevin Smith and the Rev. Darrell McNeil. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615. The family is at the home of Helen Hames.
