Helen Coggins

Helen Hawkins Coggins, 93, of 150 Cabin Road, Inman, formerly of 101 Pine Forest Road, Spartanburg, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at her home. Born October 8, 1918, in Boiling Springs, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Mary Seay Hawkins, and wife of the late Walter W. Coggins. In the 1950's Helen cultivated her passion for flowers and design by gardening in her own backyard and helping friends with their weddings. Her husband, Walter, soon joined her as the two enhanced their floral knowledge at Finley's School of Design. In 1956, the couple opened Coggins Flower Shop, on Magnolia Street, in Spartanburg. Mrs. Coggins retired as the former owner of Coggins Flowers & Gifts. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where she was a member of Yesterday Teens and Young At Heart. She was a charter member of Cudd Memorial Baptist Church where she had served as the primary Sunday School teacher for 28 years and Sunbeams Leader for 10 years. Survivors include her son, James "Jimmy" C. Coggins and wife Ginger of Inman; four grandchildren, Heather McComas, Brad Coggins and wife Summer, Lori Coggins and Bobby Blauert, and Jonathan Coggins; and five great-grandchildren, Danielle, Alicia, and Jessica McComas, Gracie Coggins, and Karlee Blauert. She was predeceased by a son, Wendell Caldwell Coggins. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, December 9, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone and the Rev. Robert C. Morgan. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex, the Rev. Bill Adams will officiate. Flowers will gladly be accepted. The family is at the home.
