Helen Candler

Helen Cheatwood Candler, 90, of Spartanburg, SC died Thursday, March 7, 2013. Born November 2, 1922 in Etowah County, AL, she was the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Plumer Haynie Cheatwood and wife of the late Foster "Freck" Candler. Mrs. Candler was former employee at Dellagrave Engraving and a beautician. She was a life member of Hayne Baptist Church (United Baptist Church), past Worthy Matron of Lone Oak Eastern Star, and a long time Red Cross volunteer at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and Mary Black Memorial Hospital. She was a graduate of Fairforest High School, Robinson's Business College, and Bob Pearson's Beauty College. Surviving are nephews, Phil Cheatwood (Susan) of Fayetteville, NC, Lynn Cheatwood (Gale) of Fairfax, VA, and C. D. "Chuck" Cheatwood of Weddington, NC; cousins and her lifelong friends and special care givers, Margaret C. Bishop and Josephine C. Harris both of Spartanburg; and many other special friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and brother, Joseph Hoyt Cheatwood. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory. Visitation will follow the service at the graveside.
