Helen Barnette

Helen Campbell Barnette, 100, of Arcadia, died peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 2020. Helen was born July 18, 1920 in Spartanburg County, a daughter of the late Bascom Cleveland and Polly Gosnell Campbell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Gene Barnette and was first married to the late Horace Mahaffey. Helen was a member of Arcadia First Baptist Church, where she previously served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Ruth Sunday School Class, and was retired after 35 years of service from Mayfair Mills. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Helen is survived by her daughter, Hazel Mahaffey Jolly of Inman; her three grandchildren, Tonya Cole (Sam) of Inman, Nicole Williams (Robert) and Tabetha Drake of Spartanburg; 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Helen is predeceased by her stepson, David Barnette; her brothers, Grover, Clarence, Hovey, Truman and Lyles Campbell; and her sisters, Octavia Campbell, Erie Justice, Rosa Mae Metcalf, Etorie Henderson, Ruth Strange, Evelyn Wright and Elzie Cox. The family will receive friends 1:00-1:45 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2020 at Arcadia First Baptist Church, 69 Spring Street, Arcadia, SC 29320. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary, conducted by the Rev. Joey Burnett. Burial will be in Fort Prince Memorial Gardens.
