Heide Hilburn

Heide Minett Hilburn, 33, of Spartanburg, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 15, 2009, at her home. Born February 26, 1976, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of Brian A. and Betty Harkey Hilburn of the home. A graduate of Spartanburg High School, she was an honor's graduate of the University of South Carolina, having received a B.A. degree in English. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a former volunteer at the Adult Learning Center and at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She loved literature, art history, and music, and was an avid writer and poet. She also cared deeply for animals and animal welfare. Heide left her impact on every life she touched and dedicated her life to helping others. She was a loyal and devoted daughter, sister, and friend. Surviving in addition to her parents is her sister, Millicent Lovell Hilburn and her fianc Kevin R. Styles of Atlanta, GA; her paternal grandmother, Edith Waters of Jacksonville, FL; her great-aunt, Lib Harkey of Charlotte, NC; numerous special cousins; her beloved cats, Baxter and Chloe; and many dear friends. Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, in the Fellowship Hall at Westminster Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Paul M. Petersen and the Rev. Dr. Trey Kuhne. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to Animal Allies, 1097 Asheville Highway, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
