Mrs. Hazel Pettit Palmer Sellars, 98, died Monday, June 26, 2023, at the Inverness Assisted Living. She was born on May 27, 1925, in the Walnut Grove Community, a daughter of the late Andrew Harlan and Ruth Allen Layton Pettit. She was twice married, first to the late John Tillman Palmer and then the late Smith LeRoy Sellars.
Mrs. Sellars was a graduate of Roebuck High School and retired as the bookkeeper at Gable Middle School. Being a faithful and dedicated Christian, she studied her Bible daily. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and was an accomplished seamstress and made many beautiful quilts for her friends and family. She enjoyed entertaining and shared many meals with her family and friends. She enjoyed her weekly card games and said that the competition “kept her young”. She made many friends at Inverness at Spartanburg. The family appreciates the care that she received while she was a resident. She loved her cats and had one as a constant companion for years.
She is survived by her children, Bert Sellars (Starr), Lee Sellars (Cathy), Jan Palmer Moss (Rodney) and Toni Sellars Lindler (Ed); daughters-in-law, Joyce Palmer and Eula Palmer Bridges (Mike); grandchildren, Cappie Sellars, Wendy Sellars Fisher (David), Scott Lindler (Paige), Chuck Lindler (Kriste), Christopher Green and Cassandra Green; great grandchildren, Sellars Lindler, Matthew Lindler, Anna Grace Lindler, Becca Lindler and Katherine Fisher; one brother, Mack Pettit. In addition to her parents and husbands she was predeceased by two sons, John Palmer and Dennis Palmer; brothers, Frank Pettit, Layton Pettit and Donald Pettit; sister, Carrie Lou Bishop Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Philadelphia Baptist Church, 3119 SC-56, Pauline SC 29374, conducted by the Rev. Kiah Graves, the Rev. Monty King and the Rev Ozzie Mabry. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
