Hazel Holland Belk, of Spartanburg, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010, at her home. Born January 11, 1923, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Adolphus and Patra Bearden Holland and was married to the late Harry Clinton Belk for fifty-seven years. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and Converse College, Class of 1943. After graduating, she taught school in Spartanburg County. During World War II, she volunteered for the American Red Cross and served at Spartanburg General Hospital. She taught Sunday School at Bethel United Methodist Church in Spartanburg. After her marriage, she taught school in New Jersey, Cincinnati, OH, and Charleston, SC. She also taught Sunday School in Haddonfield, NJ and Grace United Methodist Church in Charleston, SC. As the wife of an FBI agent, she lived in many places. After her husband retired from the FBI, they settled in Charleston where he practiced law for twenty-one years. She was a devoted wife and loved her family dearly. Survivors include two sons, Dr. H. Clinton Belk and his wife Ann of Spartanburg, and Roger Wesley Belk of Charleston, SC; a daughter Elizabeth Belk Smith and her husband Francis Lee of Prosperity, SC; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Frances H. Hardy and Dorothy H. Snyder, both of Spartanburg. She was predeceased by a sister, Ernestine H. White. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Charleston, SC and since 2004 has been a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Spartanburg. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Frank E. Lybrand. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
