Hartwell H. House, 88, of 220 Wilder Drive, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born October 10, 1920, in Newnan, GA, he was the son of the late Thomas George and Maggie Jones House. He was first married to the late Lois B. House and then to the late Ruby S. House. He was a retired engineer with Southern Railway and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he was a member of the Berea Sunday School Class and a former Deacon. A U.S. Army Combat Veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre, he was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Survivors include a son, George F. House of Spartanburg; a daughter, Nancy H. Easler and her husband Conley L., Jr. of Spartanburg; three granddaughters, Dr. Rebecca Anderson and her husband Christopher of Watkinsville, GA, Christina Easler of Columbia, and Sara Beth House of Greenville; a great-grandson, Ethan Anderson of Watkinsville, GA; a step-daughter, Hazel Williams and her husband Maurice of Roebuck; a step-son, Walter Sammons of Greer; two sisters-in-law, Jean B. Davis of Spartanburg, and Dorothy B. Hurley of Clemson; and a niece, Pauline H. Cipriano of Brooklyn, NY. He was predeceased by a brother, Herschel K. House. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Oak Grove Baptist Church Ministry Center. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Church Sanctuary conducted by the Rev. Mike McGee. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 350 North Blackstock Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
