Harry Edgar Royster

Harry Edgar Royster, 98, of Spartanburg, died peacefully on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Palmetto Patriots VA Nursing Home in Gaffney, SC after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was attended to by Patriot Hospice.

Harry Royster flew out of his fragmented brain, left Alzheimer’s on the hospice bed, and was given complete healing. In Heaven, he will no longer be worried about new school clothes so that he could drive Bus #3 at Piedmont High School, but will cherish all aspects of a life well lived. 

Born November 5, 1925, in Lawndale, NC, he was the son of the late Otis Edgar and Ella Falls Royster. 

A member of Morningside Baptist Church since 1952, he served as Sunday School Superintendent and as a Deacon. He was well known for supplying cookies and juice to the nursery department.

Harry was most proud of his service in the United States Navy during World War II.

After 39 years of service, Harry retired from Exxon Company USA. He was a member of the Greenville Exxon Annuity Club where he served as president for several years. He was a volunteer at Mobile Meals for numerous years.

Survivors include two sons, Donald G “Greg” Royster and his wife Denise Casey Royster, and Harry A. "Drew" Royster; grandchildren, Christy Michelle Blair (Jason aka “J Pop”) and Daniel Warren Royster (Caitlin); great-grandchildren, Thomas Pierce Royster, Ava Kathleen Robinette, Cole Gregory Royster, and Jack Casey Robinette; and a beloved friend and companion Geneva Padgett. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Kathryn “Kathy” McKinney Royster, and one brother, James Franklin Royster. 

Receiving of friends will be from 10 to 10:45 am on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The funeral will follow at 11 am in the Chapel, officiated by the Reverend Daniel Royster. Military Honors will be presented by American Legion Post 28.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Palmetto Patriots VA Nursing Home, 120 Hampshire Drive, Gaffney, SC 29341; Patriot Hospice, 4741 Hwy 153, Easley, SC 29642; or to Morningside Baptist Church, 897 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
