Harry Foster

Harry Hall Foster, 83, of 550 Ross Hill Road, Gaffney, died Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born May 4, 1929, in Fairforest, SC, he was a son of the late Clyde and Annie Hall Foster. He was a graduate of Spartanburg Junior College, Wofford College, and Appalachian State University, where he achieved a master's degree. Mr. Foster was a longtime teacher at Chicora High School, Chateauroux Air Force Base High School in France, New Smyrna Beach (FL) High School, and Spartanburg Methodist College. He was very active in the churches he attended, including serving as a Youth Leader and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Alston Wilkes Society, volunteer of The Bethlehem Center, and veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ogg Foster; daughter, Tanya F. Butler and husband Brad of Gaffney; sons, Douglas Nolan Foster and wife Rebecca of Spartanburg, and Donald Hall Foster and wife Beth of Marion, NC; eleven grandchildren, Bradley Butler, Stephanie Butler, Jennifer Foster, Rachel Hodge and husband Rob, Jonathan Foster, Sarah Foster, Matthew Foster, Jason Foster and wife Heather, Nicholas Foster, Megan Foster, and Brittany Foster; sisters-in-law, Minerva Foster of Anderson, SC, and Anne Foster of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by sisters, Kate Foster and Betty Goldie (Bob); brothers, William, James, and David Foster (Lucille). Visitation will be 1:00-2:30 PM Monday, November 12, 2012, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 PM at Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. James L. Garner and the Rev. Danny Marshburn. The family is at the home.
