Harold Loyd

Harold "Sonny" Loyd, 83, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed on Monday, December 24, 2012, at his home. Born August 4, 1929, in Arcadia, SC, he was the son of the late John F. and Lela Thompson Loyd and husband, for 63 years, to the late Marion Keller Loyd. A veteran and retired chief machinist mate of the U. S. Navy, Mr. Loyd also retired from Duke Power. He was a member of Arcadia First Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the VFW and Arcadia Masonic Lodge #278, and a member of the Fleet Reserves Association. "Pop" was a giving, loving husband, father and grandfather, he was a light and an angel in the world. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his son, Eddie Loyd and his wife Laura of Virginia Beach, VA; granddaughter, Ellen Meredith Gehring and her husband Zach of Norfolk, VA; Ellen's mother, Kathy Loyd of Virginia Beach, VA; and siblings, Joann Godfrey, Peggy Canavino, and Mike Loyd. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, December 28, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by the Rev. Jeff Rutledge. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
